Golf Cart Lights and Street-Legal Equipment in Galveston

Galveston Golf Cart Repair installs and repairs the lighting and safety equipment the city’s ordinance and Jamaica Beach’s local rules actually require: lighting circuit repair $75 to $150, brake light or turn signal repair $100 to $250, a full light kit install $250 to $400 plus the kit, mirrors and reflectors usually under $100 installed. Everything is done at your home, and everything is installed to the specific list your registration requires, not a generic kit.

What Galveston’s ordinance actually requires

Every golf cart registered with the City of Galveston needs, at minimum, operational headlamps, taillamps, side reflectors, a parking brake, rearview mirrors, and a slow-moving-vehicle emblem. That is the base list for a west-side (red decal) registration. A cart registered for use east of 103rd Street (green decal) needs the full base list plus turn signals, a horn, brake lights, and seat belts, and riders age 7 and older must use those seat belts when the cart operates east of the line. West-registered carts cannot legally cross east of 103rd Street at all, regardless of equipment, so the decal color, not just the lights, decides where a cart can go.

Jamaica Beach’s separate list

Jamaica Beach runs its own registration and equipment rules on top of the state framework: a slow-moving-vehicle emblem, exterior mirrors, a parking brake, headlamps, taillamps, and reflectors, plus a vehicle identification number and the state-issued golf cart license plate. Jamaica Beach caps street speed at 25 mph and beach speed at 10 mph, and a cart may only cross FM 3005 at the designated Buccaneer crossing, not travel along it. Tiki Island runs its own village-level registration as well; check current requirements with the village directly since local ordinances change.

What each job covers

• Lighting circuit repair ($75 to $150): a dead headlight, a blown fuse, a switch that has failed, or wiring corroded by salt air, which fails circuit connections here more often than it does inland.
• Brake light and turn signal repair ($100 to $250): the flasher unit, the switch, and the bulbs or LEDs themselves, all of which are required equipment for an east-side Galveston registration.
• Full light kit install ($250 to $400 plus the kit): headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and a horn added to a cart that did not ship with them, wired properly rather than tapped off a single battery in the pack.
• Mirrors and reflectors: required on every registered cart regardless of decal color or town, and one of the cheapest, highest-value safety additions available.

Why this matters beyond the ordinance

Brakes and lights are the two systems that keep a cart, and the people on it, safe once it leaves a private driveway, whether that is a Seawall Boulevard crossing, a West End beach run, or Jamaica Beach’s FM 3005 crossing at Buccaneer. Salt air corrodes wiring connectors and bulb sockets the same way it corrodes battery terminals, so a light that worked at registration time can fail quietly within a season without anyone noticing until it matters. Salt air and the inspection requirement

Carts permitted in Galveston after October 1, 2021 need a current inspection certificate on top of registration, and a lighting or equipment fault is one of the more common reasons a cart fails that inspection. Salt-corroded bulb sockets, a wiring connector that has oxidized enough to cause an intermittent light, or a mirror bracket that has rusted loose are all things an inspector will catch, and they are cheap to fix ahead of time compared to failing an inspection and having to reschedule. What we cannot do

We install and repair equipment. We cannot issue a golf cart license plate (that comes from the Galveston County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office), register a cart with the city or with Jamaica Beach or Tiki Island, or turn a golf cart into a titled low-speed vehicle. An LSV is manufactured to federal standards with its own VIN; no amount of lights and mirrors converts a golf cart into one.
